Brightening Up the Beach Front

It’s hard to realize that we are over halfway through the year now. And we have a busy period coming up. We hope you just like the 1000’s of others, entered the $4000 Travel promotion we ran in association with Helloworld Browns Bay, with support from both New World and Browns Bay Liquor. The winner of this great prize has been posted on our website and Facebook.

We received some funds recently from a fund Len Brown set up a couple of years ago to do a town centre tidy up. After discussion, we have decided to tidy up the beachfront seats and tables on the grass areas as well as surrounding the skate park area.
There are a total of 19 either bench seats or bench and table sets that we are going to bring back to life. These have all been water blasted and are ready for painting – we are just waiting for a suitable break in the weather to get our working bee in action. Currently the seats are painted in a dark green and the bench and table sets have never been painted or sealed.
Our intention is to make these into ‘pops’ of colour along the beachfront using a variety of vibrant colours that not only will look great, but be easy for you to identify if you are meeting friends at one of the bench and table sets. (Note – the colour palette is on our website)
To ensue that there is not an overkill of colour, the table tops will be given a clear coat – so the timber grain will still show through but they will be much easier to wipe down before you put you food on them for a family meal at the beach.
Any repairs will be done prior to painting and one seat will be reset into the ground – it currently has been undermined by wave action.
My working bee consists of myself and some local business people, the council contractor responsible for the project and some volunteers from the local Browns Bay Rotary Club. Look out for pictures in the next edition of the magazine.

Monthly Craft Markets –  restarting Saturday 10th September
After an absence of about 12 months, we will be restarting our monthly Saturday Craft Market in the Plaza on September 10th – the 2nd Saturday of the month. It will continue from that date, every 2nd Saturday of each month. Details of the market are on the opposite page – so note the 2nd Saturday in your calendar and we’ll see you in Browns Bay for some browsing around the stalls and great food from our businesses and the food vendors at the market.
Fathers Day Event – Saturday 2nd Sept
After the success of last year’s event, our Father’s day event will be back, bigger and better than before. There’ll be a car display featuring the latest from Mercedes Benz North Shore and local businesses plus Dad can enter the draw for a wonderful night out at deep Creek Brewing. Put it in the diary now!

Beach Café
Isn’t it great to see the builders on site? I can’t imagine the frustration Steve has been through! I know he has done a great job letting all his customers know what’s happening, so I expect a big crowd on opening day. We’ll keep you posted.

Events in the Plaza on Weekends
What a wonderful space we have in central Browns Bay in the Plaza. Whilst we plan events for the area, we cannot provide one every weekend. However, we would love to see it used more, so if you have an organisation that would like to have an event in the Plaza, contact us and we will see if it fits the criteria.
