Preparing for the winter season
We’ve been loving the magnificent autumnal weather and the lovely warm and dry days.

However, gardens cannot survive without rain and with many winter crops reliant on cold conditions in order to thrive, so we look forward to some cooler conditions for our gardeners to enjoy all the new seasons trees, shrubs and edibles. All the very best in new seasons roses, camellias and rhododendrons are arriving, and the most unusual and interesting of the bunch are often released first so don’t miss out on the very best of the selection available.
For those with edible gardens, start planting new fruit trees like citrus, apples, pears, plums, peaches and nectarines. If you want fresh, juicy strawberries this summer, now’s the time to plant and our new seasons seedlings start arriving in June. It may seem early, but planting strawberries now will get them well established so they will fruit earlier and for longer so is totally worth the effort. Strawberries can be planted in tubs and containers, hanging baskets and even vertical gardens, just make sure you add a layer of strawberry straw on top of the soil to prevent slug damage and to keep the fruit from rotting down the track.
For winter colour start planting Alyssum, Forget-me-not, Pansies, Viola, Polyanthus, Primula, Poppy, Sweetpea, Cyclamen, Hollyhock, Lobelia, Sweet William and Anemone. Adding shots of colour in to pots and containers around your deck and patio can make grey days seem a little less drab.
Over in the café, our new winter menu is going great with some new additions like Lamp Rump Risotto and Chicken Burger alongside your breakfast and lunch favourites. We’ve added
a Green Goddess smoothie with mango and spinach which is a must try for anyone who hasn’t caught on to the green smoothie craze yet!
