Serving up sensory surprises at Pinot Plus

Award-winning sommelier, John Ingle, likes to think of his boutique wine bar and restaurant as ‘a little hole in the wall on the Shore.’  But as you wander into this cosy establishment, and peruse the menu and wine list – you will see what is small in size is big on surprise.

John opened Pinot Plus – aptly named after the Pinot Gris and Noir trend recently seen in wines – some five years ago on Hurstmere Road, with the intention of providing customers with an experience they won’t forget.
His aim is to take you out of your comfort zone with the perfect pour from his extensive and exclusive range of boutique wines.
“My wine menu changes often, as I source it from boutique wineries – this allows my customers to sample a wide range of wines that otherwise would not get the exposure on the shore.
“It’s the fun part of my job – introducing my customers to a new tasting experience.”  And his customers, new and returning, have continued faith in his choices – after all he has been doing this for over 25 years.  And true to his ethos, where wine takes priority, his head chef, Grant Kitchen, conjures up delicacies to fully complement the wine.
Evidence of this combined passion is when, on the third Monday of each month, they hold their ‘surprise’ Degustation Dinners to introduce a hosting winery.  Grant personally presents and explains the different facets of the six ‘surprise’ courses designed to harmonise with each accompanying wine.
Indulge your senses and discover something new every time you enter this unique ‘little hole in the wall’ on the Shore.

Open for dinner: Tuesday to Saturday, 5.30pm until late.  Pinot Plus, 168 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna 09 489 9510
