In early June Browns Bay School held a very successful “Sustainable Superstars Day” to support their ‘Travelwise' campaign.
The children had to design and create a recycled costume to raise awareness for keeping traffic away from our school. The aim was to encourage sustainability, promote fitness by walking, biking, scootering, using the park n walk areas or using the Walking School Bus which will help to look after our environment.
In addition the kids had to decorate a shoe template and use it to form the word ‘sustainable’ on the senior court area.
The whole school also participated in a Sustainable Superstars parade. To participate students needed to wear a sustainable costume focused around reduce, reuse and recycle materials and to use sustainable transport to get to school.
"This Sustainable Superstars Day was hugely successful with the overwhelming support from the school community,” explained lead teacher on the Travelwise initiative Tanya Loader. “We had close to 95% participation. Browns Bay School is particularly proud to be a Travelwise Gold School and continue to promote being Travelwise."
