It all started with a humble Brownie Camera
Settlers Luxurious Lifestyle Village, Albany

When Judy Hodge was a girl she saw the world through the lens of a Brownie box camera. Today she is an award winning photographer currently exhibiting as part of the North Shore Photographic Societyʼs 60th anniversary at the Mairangi Arts Centre.
Judy and her husband Russell, a former Rangitoto College teacher, live at Settlers Lifestyle Village Albany where Judy shares her lifelong interest and experience in the art of photography with the Settlers Albany Camera Club. Judyʼs expertise helps provide this active group of photographers with a new interest and enthusiasm for life.
“Photography allows you to see the world through different eyes,” says Judy. "When youʼre looking through the lens of a camera youʼre both detached yet acutely aware. It allows you to expose your creativity.”
This group of photographic enthusiasts is always learning. The worldʼs gone digital and so have they, embracing the new in-camera technology and computer software such as Photoshop.
“Itʼs inspiring the way everyone supports each other and shares their skills and expertise. Older people have a lot of knowledge and a lot to give.”
The talent that leaps off the atrium gallery walls at Settlers Albany is testament to this statement. Judyʼs specialty is architectural abstract photography and as a resident at Settlers for four years sheʼs been a keen observer of the progress at the village. Right now, itʼs the design excellence of Settlers Albanyʼs new Lucas building with its two and three bedroom luxury apartments thatʼs capturing everyoneʼs imagination.
This is one lifestyle village that really does put the emphasis on lifestyle.
The Camera Club is one of many at Settlers along with active theatre, library, lounges, heated pool, gym, bowls, beauty salon, bar and café. And what a fantastic place to call home. The spacious design and quality of the apartments and townhouses at Settlers is exceptional. As is the location, with views over adjacent Kell Park and easy access to Albanyʼs bush walks and the Albany Mega Centre.
The new Lucas Apartments are available now and selling fast. For those who want more out of life in retirement, our advice is donʼt hesitate.
