Here we are with our last issue of the year and its a biggie for the publication. As the cover tells, this is Channel’s 50th issue and our small team is proud of that.
When publisher Aidan Bennett got the magazine under way in mid-2010, during a recession, it was to celebrate local people, support local business and community - to be a positive voice for the Shore. It’s grown much thicker, goes out to many more homes and businesses and has moved with the times, but the premise remains the same.
Aidan shares his story behind the magazine in his ‘I’ve Been (positively) Thinking’ article overleaf. And I had fun catching up with Channel’s former roving camerawoman extraordinaire, Ulla Bennett ahead of this issue to chat about the magazine - and her - being 50.
I was welcomed into the Channel fold in April 2012, writing a couple of monthly features for the magazine. What began with a handful of hours a week, soon became a full on, full time role and I was honoured when Aidan asked me to head up the magazine as editor later that year.
2014 has been a good year for the magazine, and personally; we’ve moved on in a positive direction. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting and interviewing some incredible people and continue to be amazed at the quality and kindness of those who choose to call this special place home.
I’d like to thank all our contributors for the time and energy that goes into producing the insightful content we are able to share each month, and all our supporters, willing interviewees and our stellar Channel team for all their efforts.
We’re going strong at 50! And as we look toward 2015 with fresh ideas and goals, I think that what we’ve achieved deserves celebrating.
Have a very happy summer holiday!
