This month I’ve been thinking about the fantastic playground that’s on its way for Takapuna. It will be built by Christmas this year.
It was around a year ago that I discovered the amazing gesture that local Takapuna couple Jackie Kerridge and Chris Reeve were making – to underwrite the development of an all ages and abilities playground on Gould Reserve. I discovered this after seeing a notice on their beach-front property. It was something that I was determined to get in behind.
I also discovered that Jackie and Chris shared a passion for building not just any playground, but the best playground in the country. They had spent hours and hours visiting playgrounds all over the country, studying and researching the best features. They had become experts and their grandchildren had enjoyed the journey along the way!
12 months on I am a trustee of the project and working with a small team of energetic locals to help Jackie and Chris bring this to reality. It is a thrill that the local board has got in behind the project as well that will see the playground built this side of Christmas.
While the generosity of Jackie and Chris has taken away the financial risk of the project, we are still looking for others who wish to contribute so they don’t end up funding it all on their own. These may be businesses, families or private individuals who share our goal of this much-needed playground for Takapuna.
The opportunities include sponsoring individual items or just making a donation towards this community driven project. If you are interested please feel free to contact me.
Donations can also be made via our Takapuna Beach Playground Charitable Trust "Give-a-Little" page:- https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/takaplayground
Thinking about adding to our team at Channel…
We are also looking to add to our team at Channel Magazine. We are looking for multi-talented people who want to work on our tight-knit team that brings this monthly magazine and website to life. You won’t get rich but you will have loads of fun!
This will be an interesting part-time/contract role (2-3 days a week that can fit in with school hours) that would suit a person who may have had children and is looking to come back into the workforce. That person will need to be able to write good copy, take photos and also get involved in selling commercial opportunities to advertisers. It is a real ‘people role’ that will also include delivering magazines to businesses within our distribution area once a month. Interested people will also need to have their own vehicle.
If you are interested feel free to contact me at any time. The sooner the better!
Have a great August!
