DEPOT Te Whare Toi, Devonport

As we gear up for our December exhibitions and events it’s incredible to look back at the year that’s been.

It has been a year of upheaval, change and challenges, with some amazing wins along the way. We feel we’re out the other side stronger than ever and ready for a solid 2025! Alongside our annual exhibition and Sound programme, we launched various new events and initiatives, including Devonport’s First Thursdays series, which is growing every month. We got flooded and were closed for nearly three months. We set up a new gallery and shop at the historic Borough Council buildings on Victoria Rd, where we also established seven artist studios supporting 15 local artists. It has been epic and we need a lie-down, but it has also been exhilarating and fun. And none of it could have been possible without our extraordinary creative team and our amazing local partners, artists, creatives, funders and supporters. So, a massive thank you! Enjoy the Christmas break, and we look forward to seeing you in 2025! But first, we have our last offerings of the year coming up, so please enjoy and come and say Kia ora.

DEPOT Artspace - RE: OBJECT
RE: OBJECT is an exciting exhibition that marks the halfway point in the inaugural two-year OBJECT MAKER Aotearoa Fellowship designed to nurture and empower 10 contemporary object makers working across craft-based and found materials. Focusing on material play alongside conceptual insights, artists explore the rich intersection between craft, design and visual arts and bring the object into the spotlight. RE: OBJECT showcases a diverse group of artists working with new ideas, pushing material boundaries and testing new ways of making.

DEPOT - 3 Victoria Rd, Gallery and Shop
Supporting local artists, our Vic Rd Gallery and Shop sells unique handmade art and objects from local makers and those from around Aotearoa. So, if you are looking for some special gifts this summer, please drop in and say hello and let us introduce you to the work of our local creative community. The gallery and shop will be open throughout the silly season, so be sure to drop by if you want a destination visit and some lovely treats.
