There’s a certain magic that settles over The PumpHouse Theatre in May; a crispness in the air, Killarney Park’s trees all a gorgeous autumnal colour, and inside our wee heritage building, the community gathers to enjoy all the entertainment we have on offer.
The Queen’s Nanny is one you won’t want to miss! Marion Crawford, affectionately known as “Crawfie”, spent sixteen years as nanny to the young princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. Brought to life by Tadpole Productions, it’s a witty, sharp exploration of class, power, and the monarchy, with plenty of bite. It’s starring some famous faces: Laura Hill as the Queen Mother, Anna Jullienne as Crawfie, and Jack Buchanan, who has the task of portraying seven characters throughout the play! If you love your theatre with a bit of sass and substance, this one’s for you.
The Vegas Horror Show (8 May) brings a spooky twist to magic, while The Confidence Project: Platform & Passion (9 May) celebrates emerging performers stepping boldly into the spotlight.
We’re also hosting another free Creative Talk, this time with Catherine George (18 May), who will be speaking about arts funding, and over King’s Birthday weekend, we welcome back the North Shore Performing Arts Society for their Senior Vocal Competitions and Becroft Aria Final (29–31 May), alongside a special piano concerto where three talented, young pianists perform a Mozart piano concerto with the Devonport Chamber Orchestra.
This month, we’re also celebrating 49 years of being a theatre! Yes - that means the big 50 is coming up…
We’d love to see you at the theatre soon!
