Upcoming projects for Milford

There is real progress to celebrate in Milford, with several long-supported community projects now moving ahead. Work is already underway on a new footpath linking the Milford Beach toilet block and changing sheds to the path near the Milford Cruising Club, and it is expected to be completed within six weeks. Originally planned as part of the toilet block and changing shed project finished a few years ago, the footpath was delayed by budget constraints, so it is great to see this important connection finally being delivered.

Another important project for Milford is the replacement of the Inga Road bridge, which is due to begin next, although a start date has not yet been confirmed. The current bridge has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. In the same area, plans are also progressing for a new boardwalk on the marina side of Inga Road. Debbie, co-chair of the Milford Residents Association, and I recently met with the local board to share feedback on the proposal.

Many people will already have noticed the fantastic improvements at the Milford marina, where floating pontoons have replaced the old fixed landing structure. This upgrade has made a real difference and has added even more life and enjoyment to our marine precinct. Milford Mariners has led this work, and it continues to be an important project for the area.

The Wairau Estuary boardwalk is another long-standing project that is now gaining fresh momentum. First proposed more than 10 years ago by the Milford Residents Association and Milford Business Association, with support from the local board, the project is now being reviewed by Auckland Transport as part of wider efforts to improve walking access for the Milford community.

Planned holding ponds at Takapuna Golf Course will also play an important part in helping protect the area during severe weather events. These will provide a valuable community benefit and help support the success of downstream projects. It is very rewarding to see the combined efforts of local organisations helping bring these long-advocated improvements closer to reality.
