October is here, which means it’s time to get out, soak up a little spring sunshine and explore everything our beautiful city has to offer. And, of course, we’d love for The PumpHouse to be part of your plans!
With Pupukemoana on our doorstep, radiant Killarney Park all around us and plenty happening on stage, we’re a pretty lovely place to visit. Whether you fancy a political comedy, live music or a little Halloween magic, there’s something waiting for you at the theatre this October.
First up, Tadpole Productions presents Dave Armstrong’s 'The Surprise Party' from 8–18 October. This is a high-energy political satire that takes a very Kiwi swipe at elections, MMP and the wonderfully messy business of trying to keep a political party together. (How topical!) When the hapless POP party gathers on election night, their sole MP Doug Morris and his colleagues are in for some very big surprises. With a stellar cast including Alison Quigan and Stephen Papps, and directed by Colin McColl ONZM, this is politics with the volume turned right up.
Keeping the political theme going, our next Creative Talk is with Richard Hills on 19 October, who will discuss why the arts are important. Our Creative Talks are free, and seats are limited. RSVP required on our website.
Then, on 24–25 October, 'Caviar and Lentils' serves up a deliciously chaotic Italian comedy of money, marriage, deception and keeping up appearances. Performed in Russian with synchronised English translation, it’s a farce packed with outrageous characters and theatrical mayhem.
On 26 October, experience the beautiful meeting of east and west with 'Piano Meets the Chinese Guzheng', celebrating the ancient Chinese instrument through solo, ensemble and collaborative performances.
'Tricks ‘n’ Treats Magic Show' returns this Halloween! Packed with magic, comedy, audience participation, spectacular illusions, prizes and plenty of surprises. Costumes encouraged! This is the perfect Halloween treat for little ones.
See you at the theatre soon!
