Heritage tour at The Vic
The Auckland Heritage Festival starts on 26 September and our oldest cinema is involved. The Victoria Theatre in Devonport has a history that dates back to 1912, the era of silent film; it is the oldest purpose-built cinema in the southern hemisphere and an art deco treasure. A wonderful opportunity for both film buffs and history fans, this tour of the cinema will focus on both film history and The Vic's heritage. Limited places so book in quick! Pōhutukawa Singers is a mixed voice (SATB) choir with a wide-ranging repertoire, currently rehearsing for its end of year concerts on Friday 27 November and Sunday 29 November under the expert guidance and tuition of talented music director, Esther Leefe. They are currently welcoming enquiries from any tenors and/or baritones who can also sing tenor parts. Previous choral singing experience or other relevant singing ability, along with a knowledge of written music would be helpful. They rehearse Monday nights at Pinehurst School, Bush Road, Albany. Youth sailing champions in action
Come down to Murrays Bay from 26–29 September to see New Zealand's top young sailors compete in the 2026 PredictWind New Zealand Youth Championships at Murrays Bay Sailing Club and you will see the next generation of top sailors in action. The regatta serves as the official selection trial for the 2026 NZL Sailing Foundation Youth Team, so it will be a hard-fought four days for the young sailors.
