Sherwood School turns 50

Share your story and join the celebration!

Sherwood School is celebrating an incredible 50 years in 2026, and we’re inviting our whole community – past and present – to be part of it.

Since opening in 1976, Sherwood has been at the heart of so many families’ lives. From lifelong friendships to generations of learners, the school has built a rich and special history, and now we’d love your help to tell it.
As part of the celebrations, our PTA is creating a Memory Wall, and we’re looking for photos, stories, and connections from across the decades. Whether you were a student, parent, teacher or supporter, your memories are part of what makes Sherwood so special.
We’re especially keen to hear from families with long-standing ties to the school; those whose children, parents, or even grandparents attended Sherwood, anyone involved in the original planning or building of the school, and past or present staff and parent helpers.

Join us for our 50th Celebration Day
We’d also love you to come along and celebrate with us on Wednesday 23 September 2026 – a day for past and present pupils and staff to reconnect and share memories.

Programme highlights include:

  • Block Tahi: Pōwhiri and Assembly
  • Morning Tea: A chance to welcome our manuhiri, share kōrero, and enjoy kai together
  • Block Rua: Outdoor hīkoi led by Enviro Leader Karla Anderson and students
  • Block Toru: Classroom walk-throughs
  • Afternoon: '50 Years of Song and Dance' – a special matinee performance for our past staff and students
  • Evening: Memory Wall reminiscing with drinks and canapés
  • This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate the people and stories that have shaped Sherwood over the past 50 years.

If you have a story, photo or connection to share, or if you are thinking you may attend we would absolutely love to hear from you: pta@sws.school.nz
Let’s celebrate 50 years of Sherwood together, and the many more memories still to come.
