Goldie’s Bar & Yard is the North Shore’s new country-inspired oasis. We’ve been in for a visit already, and can promise you it’s the hottest scene in town.
We’re talkin’ cowboy hats, leather boots, peach iced tea with vodka, and fried chicken with bourbon BBQ sauce.
The new Hurstmere Road bar promises to take up the mantle of The Elephant Wrestler that previously occupied the same location, with big nights, long lunches and the best of Takapuna’s party scene.
“The Elephant Wrestler was an institution for Takapuna, and after many years it was time to breathe fresh life into the space,” says Star Group CEO Sam Egerton.
“The inspiration for a Western bar came from a strong sense that our customers would embrace a country music vibe, paired with a modern twist that works just as well for a long lunch as it does for line dancing to a live band. The result is a space that feels fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
The Yard restaurant area is a relaxed, sprawling outdoor space with a water tower, Western murals, and a fully retractable roof.
Inside, The Bar will be Saturday night central. It’s giving bootleg lounge, complete with a stone fireplace, massive Yellowstone-style trophy room chairs, pool table and disco ball.
Even the bathrooms are fun, with more disco flamboyance and themed, selfie-ready mirrors.
The menu is looking hot with southern Americana, like slow-cooked brisket, sweet potato fries, burgers, pecan pie and berry cobbler.
Goldie’s has its own range of signature southern cocktails, including Southern Peach Tea with vodka, peach and lemon, Pink Porch Lemonade with gin and homestyle pink lemonade, and the non-alcoholic Arnold Palmer of southern iced tea and old-style lemonade.
American beers like Modelo and Budweiser are being served next to local craft brews.
Meanwhile, the entertainment promises to absolutely wallop, with a wicked house band playing the big nights every week, and a roster of events like line dancing nights, live country music and DJ sets. There will even be a mechanical bull if you’re feeling limber.
