Summer at The PumpHouse Theatre is a little bit like Kirihimete morning - packed with surprises, a dash of nostalgia, and more than a few moments of magic. This year, our festive line-up promises to light up your holiday season, offering something for every kind of theatre lover.
First, we’re sleighing it with The Santa Claus Show ‘24 by Tim Bray, presented by the incredible Tim Bray Theatre Company. This Kiwi Christmas classic has been sprinkling festive joy for 20 years, and this season is no exception. Follow Kelly’s snowy escapade to the North Pole, where lessons of generosity, laughter, and a big dose of holiday cheer await. Perfect for little ones, or anyone who’s still a kid at heart!
For those craving comedy, our improv specials have you covered. On December 6, Late Night Knife Fight unleashes three teams of razor-sharp wits in a battle for audience glory. The next night, Casual First Date serves up hilarity in an improvised sketch comedy show where the strange and mundane get gleefully close!
Feeling carolling vibes? Join us outdoors on December 15 for our PumpHouse Christmas Carols in the Amphitheatre. There’s nothing like a good sing-along under the summer sun to make your spirit bright!
As the holidays fade into long, balmy evenings, Shoreside Theatre’s Auckland Shakespeare in the Park takes centre stage. From January 18, the Amphitheatre transforms into a magical world of Shakespearean drama. This season, The Taming of the Shrew gets an all-female cast makeover - expect fierce banter and bold laughs. Meanwhile, Richard III immerses itself in the gritty world of post-war London gang culture, re-imagining the Bard’s tale of ambition and betrayal with a bit of a Peaky Blinders vibe.
Whether you’re jingling your bells or brushing up on your Bard, The PumpHouse is your summer destination for entertainment. Come for the stories, stay for the magic.
Meri Kirihimete, and a very happy 2025 to you all!
