Takapuna’s Christmas tradition continues

'The End of the Golden Weather' returns to Takapuna Beach again this Christmas for the 19th time.

Over the past 18 years, thousands of people of all ages have shared their cherries and cakes, enjoyed something from a thermos, or just greeted neighbours they haven’t seen since last Christmas. As many say, "We’re just here because that’s what you do on Christmas morning in Takapuna."

The End of the Golden Weather (EGW19) features the well-known and loved Stephen Papps, who appeared in Ian Mune’s original movie of Bruce Mason’s play, and continues a Takapuna tradition set right where it was written, evoking the sights, sounds and smells of a family Kiwi Christmas in the 1930s. It is part three of Bruce Mason’s iconic New Zealand play and hilariously captures the injustices of childhood seen through the eyes of a child who upstages a carefully planned family pageant on Christmas Day. Its spirit is as true today as when it was written and just as relevant.

What better way to start Christmas Day?
