On the other side of sixty!

Can you believe it’s June? When you’re on the other side of 60 time seems to fly by much quicker!

Not quick enough though to prevent us producing another bumper issue of Channel Mag. Once again 116 pages full of positive things happening north of the Harbour Bridge. And it’s all free!

I must start this editorial by wishing my lovely wife Michelle a very happy birthday for 4 June. It’s a milestone birthday. As I write this, I still have no idea what gift I am going to buy for her and you will be no help, as by the time you are reading this the day will have passed by. Help!

Michelle and I spent three weeks in Europe in late April and early May, so maybe that could be repackaged as the main present? We hadn’t been any further than Australia since the pandemic, so it was good to get out and see the world once again. We spent ten days in Portugal and Spain cycling, four nights in Copenhagen (what a wonderful city), and then went to Antwerp in Belgium for a wedding. We stopped in Dubai on the way home – that place blew me away! The weather and temperatures were mixed during the three weeks, but we enjoyed the break immensely.

Shortly after I got back, I enjoyed meeting Kate Fraser and Tom Webster of Grand Designs New Zealand. I am a big fan of the show. Tom is the front man and Kate is the producer and organiser and they both love living on the Shore. I trust you enjoy my feature interview.

Other features in the mag this month include profiling what’s in store for Takapuna Winter Lights this year (on from 25-28 July); we have suggestions on how you can overcome the school holiday boredom blues; we feature some of our community heroes; and we highlight the sensational work that the charity Sustainable Coastlines does on our beaches. Our team has also been ‘Out & About’ capturing the highlights of events.

We always include strong content from our schools in Channel Mag. It is something we’ve been doing virtually right from the start – 14 years ago. We have the best schools in New Zealand. Our cover for this issue features photos from a number of these schools.

Enjoy all your free reading. Have a great June!
