Te Pae ō Ōruamōkai officially opens at Hobsonville Point

On Thursday 16 April, guests gathered on the edge of the Upper Waitematā Harbour to celebrate a milestone for Hobsonville Point, as Te Pae ō Ōruamōkai officially opened its doors. The new Upper Waitematā Marine Centre, with its wonderful harbour views, provided a fitting backdrop for the occasion. Hosted by the trustees of the Hobsonville Point Marine Sports Recreation Centre Charitable Trust, the morning brought together community leaders, mana whenua, project partners and supporters to mark the beginning of a new chapter for marine recreation in the area. The centre’s name, gifted by Te Kawerau ā Maki, honours Ōruamōkai, the taniwha who protects the inner Waitematā Harbour, reflecting its role as a place of gathering and watching. Following formal proceedings, guests explored the thoughtfully designed waterfront facility at Launch Road, Onekiritea. With expansive decking and calm harbour vistas, Te Pae ō Ōruamōkai feels set to become a treasured community hub.
