Club of the year smashes 75 years

Triple celebrations are being enjoyed at Campbells Bay Tennis Club as 2023 turns out to be even more of a milestone year than members imagined.

The club marks its 75th jubilee this year, which was marked in March with a celebration event at its Beach Road base.
Following this, the club was delighted to receive the news that it had been named New Zealand Tennis Northern Club of the Year 2023. And, on top of this, it also received the accolade of Coach Sportsperson of the Year at the Tennis Northern Annual Awards.
Club spokesperson Tash Bartlett was among happy members celebrating the Club of the Year news. “There are many factors which have contributed to this including an increase in membership from 175 in 2019 to close to 500 currently, resurfacing of four courts and installation of LED lights, over the past three years.”
On court, the club has had much success this season and in recent years, it was named Chelsea Cup champions 2023, 2022 and was runner-up in 2021.
Tash also points to new initiatives brought in by the club to bolster its offerings and encourage young female players to stick to the sport.
“We have seen the introduction of the SisterServe programme, which buddies our seniors and juniors up to help keep teenage girls in tennis, and sport.”
She adds, “Winning Tennis Northern Club of the Year in our 75th year celebrates the members, committees, sponsors, coaches, volunteers and communities, past and present, that have all contributed to making Campbells Bay the thriving club it is today.”
Channel publishing company, Benefitz, is among the club’s proud sponsors.
