Lake House Arts Satellite Exhibitions:
Endeavour Exhibition at Spencer on Byron

Exhibition of paintings of Captain Cook’s circumnavigation of Aotearoa New Zealand, has been produced to coincide with the Tuia - Encounters 250, which marks 250 years since the first onshore encounters between Maori and Pakeha in 1769 -70.

This exhibition of paintings by Alan Sanders, of Captain James Cook’s ship the H.M.Bark Endeavour. These paintings are based on Cook’s journal notes that he wrote on his first voyage to Aotearoa New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

The paintings are a celebration of the navigational skills and seamanship of James Cook and his crew, and the challenges that faced a small wooden ship, a converted Whitby Collier, to travel half way around the world, from England to the South Pacific, and back again.
