Several hundred family members turned out to celebrate the second Grandparents Day at The Poynton Metlifecare Village in Takapuna on a sunny Sunday, 6 October. As well as enjoying a sausage sizzle, snacks, face painting, party packs and games of petanque and bowls, visitors were treated to a magic show, balloons, coffee and cake. All 25 Metlifecare Villages opened their doors to residents’ families on the day, offering tours of the villages to see firsthand the lifestyle that residents, their children and grandchildren can enjoy. The Poynton’s Suzee Janis says the special day acknowledges residents and celebrates the role that grandparents play in their families’ lives, and residents love the way an everyday Sunday can be transformed into an amazing experience.
